Biomedical informatics, biostatistics announce naming for newly integrated unit

(I2DB) Institute for Informatics, Data Science and Biostatistics

The School of Medicine’s biomedical informatics and biostatistics units are uniting under the existing “I2” moniker as the Institute for Informatics, Data Science and Biostatistics (I2DB).

The old Institute for Informatics and Division of Biostatistics logos combining to form the new Institute for Informatics, Data Science and Biostatistics (I2DB) logo.

The alignment between informatics and biostatistics at the School of Medicine, however, is not quite as new. In 2019, the Division of Biostatistics became part of the Institute for Informatics in order to align and maximize the medical school’s informatics, data science and biostatistics capabilities. The combined unit has found success and synergy in integrating academically as well as more deeply understanding our new colleagues’ research projects, and has provided for more streamlined approaches to core services and operations.

In the summer of 2022, with integration and finding a shared identity for the unit largely complete or ongoing, work began to create a single name and website to represent it.

On March 20, 2023, this website is officially launching and accepting redirects from the legacy-named websites. In the future, we will continue to add more content and share exciting news about the stellar people, research and academics that make up I2DB, so please visit again soon!
