Hao Fan, a PhD student in Biomedical Informatics and Data Science (BIDS), has achieved Editor’s Choice honors for two papers published in the Journal of the American Medical Informatics Association (JAMIA).
Fan’s paper “Semi-automated pipeline to accelerate multi-site flowsheet alignment and concept mapping in electronic health records,” co-authored with Sarah C. Rossetti, PhD, RN; Jennifer Thate, PhD, RN; Rosemary Mugoya, PhD, RN; Albert M. Lai, PhD; and Po-Yin Yen, PhD, RN, presents a pipeline for aligning EHR flowsheets among healthcare organizations. Published in July 2025, the study demonstrates significant improvements in EHR interoperability.
Fan’s second paper, “Supporting clinical reasoning through visual summarization and presentation of patient data: a systematic review,” co-authored with Angela Hardi, MLIS, and Po-Yin Yen, PhD, RN, reviews strategies for visualizing EHR data to support clinical decision-making. Published in September 2025, it identifies critical gaps and offers insights into effective visualization methods.
Fan’s contributions are advancing the field of biomedical informatics and improving healthcare documentation and decision support. Fan is a member of Dr. Po-Yin Yen’s research lab.
